Bouquet of gladioli - summer flowers with character
A bouquet of gladioli adds color, structure and height to any arrangement. Gladioli - also known as sword lily - belong to the iris family (Iridaceae) and are real botanical and visual highlights.
This is what makes gladioli in a bouquet so special:
- Growth habit: Upright flower spikes, 60-150 cm high - ideal for elegant bouquets
- Flower colors: White, pink, red, yellow, violet or bicolored - can be combined in many ways
- Flowering time: June to September - a real summer classic
- Leaves: Narrow and sword-shaped (hence the name, from the Latin gladius = sword)
- Origin: Originally from Africa and the Mediterranean
- Flower shape: Funnel-shaped, arranged in one or two rows on the spike
Whether as a soloist or combined with delicate companion flowers - a gladiolus bouquet always looks powerful and expressive. Perfect for birthdays, get-well wishes or simply as a colorful summer greeting.
Proper care of gladioli - How to keep your bouquet fresh for longer
A few simple tips will help your bouquet of gladioli last as long as possible and ensure that all the flowers open in succession:
- Cut fresh stems: Trim about 2-3 cm with a sharp knife or floral scissors, preferably straight!
- Remove lower leaves: Anything that is standing in water should be removed to prevent rotting.
- Choose a clean vase: Gladioli need a tall, stable vase with fresh water, which should be topped up or changed regularly.
- Cool location: Avoid direct sunlight, hot air or fruit. This accelerates the flowering process.
- Carefully pluck off withered flowers: This gives the upper buds more energy to blossom.
With a little attention, your gladiolus bouquet will provide many days of blooming splendor - ideal as a decorative highlight or as a powerful gift with meaning.
